CBR : Special Schools

In order to prepare the MR and CP children for Formal schools, we have started 8 Special Schools in 8 Gram Panchayats of Bargarh and Bheden Blocks. Only the Mentally Retarded (MR) and the Cerebral Palsy (CP) children are enrolled in these schools. At the moment 84 children (boys- 46 and girls- 38) are attending the special schools regularly. They are taught elementary things as to recognize the parts of the body, identify different colors, fruits, vegetables, animals, and birds and distinguish pictures from real objects etc. Visual aids and other study materials become handy to train these children.

Through regular exercise, counseling, persuasion and hard work, parents are motivated to send their children to the special schools. The school children are provided with nutritional support. It is heartening to notice the improvement they make to their motor power, general knowledge and behaviour patterns. Already 30 children have qualified from the special schools and are enrolled in the formal schools. The parents and guardians of these children are quite cooperative. They too keep in contact with the special educators and the Sarpanches for children's education and scholarship linkages.
